Imaging mRNA localisation in memory-relevant neurons in the Drosophila brain

January 28, 2020 @ 12:00 - 13:00

Join us on 28th January 2020 at 12pm for PIZZA and Science in the Sherrington Room.  Abstract: Memories are encoded in Drosophila as dopamine driven changes in the efficacy of synaptic connections between Mushroom Body Kenyon Cells and Mushroom Body Output Neurons (MBONs). Evidence from flies and mammals suggests that some learning-relevant synaptic plasticity requires local translation of new proteins within specific neuronal processes. Neurons therefore have to deliver the relevant mRNAs to these neuronal compartments as a means of spatially and temporally regulating protein…

Emergent Scientists Seminar Series: “Neural Coding in the Auditory Cortex”

July 17, 2020 @ 16:00 - 18:30

We are happy to announce the launch of a new format for our "Emergent Scientists Seminar Series". In this renovated format, we will feature online talks by two PhD students at the end of their doctorate or postdocs in their very first years, from Oxford but also any other university, to present their research on a specific topic in Neuroscience. The first “Emergent Scientists Seminar” will be on Friday, 17th July at 4 pm, focused on the Neural Coding in the…

Emergent scientists discuss Alzheimer’s disease

October 20, 2020 @ 16:00 - 17:00

This seminar is part of our “Emergent Scientists” series, an initiative that provides a platform for scientists at the critical PhD/postdoc transition period to share their work with a broad audience and network. Summary: These talks cover Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research in both mice and humans. Christiana will discuss in particular the translational aspects of applying mouse work to humans and the importance of timing in disease pathology and intervention (e.g. timing between AD biomarkers vs. symptom onset, timing of…
